MTEL - Communication and Literacy Skills Test (CLST) Preparation

The Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) Communication and Literacy Skills Test, includes a Reading and a Writing sub-test. This State License exam is required for all prospective teachers in the State of Massachusetts. Fitchburg State College Education majors are required to pass this test prior to completing 45 credits.

CLST - Writing Sub-test Preparation Resources

The Tutor Center offers free Tutoring at the Writing Center to assist FSC students to prepare for the MTEL - CLST Writing sub-test.  Tutors can guide you to learn everything that you need to know about the eight Writing sub-tests.  Students learn effective test-taking and preparation strategies and can evaluate their progress regularly with practice tests. Student do not need to research what to study for the test. The Tutor Center has prepared 14 specific practice packets aligned with each of the Test objectives and Tutors can provide all the information, additional practice exercises and tutorial support to assist with the preparation process. Prior to meeting with a Writing Center tutor students are advised to purchase the only "Official Test Preparation Guidebook" The Official THEA Test Study Guide ISBN 0-89056-02206, available at the FSC Bookstore for $19. Students are encouraged to not waste their money purchasing any other MTEL Test Preparation book. The Writing Center Tutors will guide students on how to best use this Test Study Guide written by the test developers, National Evaluation Systems Inc., and recommended by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

Video CLST Reading sub-test Preparation Workshops

Tom Rousseau, M.Ed. instructs two one-hour Video Workshops that review both the reading comprehension and vocabulary test objectives. A specific reading comprehension strategy is practiced. Test directions, test objectives and specific effective study methods and a multiple choice test taking method is presented. Prior to viewing the Video Workshop students are advised to purchase the only "Official Test Preparation Guidebook" The Official THEA Test Study Guide ISBN 0-89056-02206, available at the FSC Bookstore for $19.
