Web Guidebook: Style Guidelines for Administrative Office Websites
Templates
Administrative offices must use the standard administrative web templates (see screenshot below) for their departmental website. These templates can be obtained by contacting a website support person.
Web Editors
The required web editor for creating and maintaining administrative websites at the college is Macromedia Contribute. To get this software installed contact a website support person.
Fonts
The standard font face used in the administrative web templates is Verdana with a font size of 2. Font sizes and faces are automatically applied to body text. Various heading styles are also available within Macromedia Contribute.
Colors
The standard color for web links is green #006633 (RGB Value = 0/102/51). This information is already embedded in the administrative web templates. There is no need to apply the link color. Visited links will appear grey #444444 (RGB Value = 68/68/68) to help users track which pages they have viewed.
Images
The use of images in a web page helps give a more dynamic and personalized feel to the site.
To search and download photographs from the college's online photo catalog visit Print Services.
When saving images use the following general guidelines:
- Photos: The suggested web file format for photos is JPEG.
- Graphics: Most non-photographic images should be saved as a GIF file (also called CompuServe GIF or Graphics Interchange Format).
Maintenance
It's important to keep on top of your web updates. More and more, people are using the web as a major information source. Out-dated information can be more detrimental than none at all.
List a contact person for visitors to email in the event that there is a broken link, etc. to report.
