Syllabus

The Peer Tutoring Training Seminar is a ten-hour course of study conducted on two consecutive weekends at the beginning of each semester. All students who want to work as a peer tutor must complete this training seminar. The Peer Tutor Training Seminar primarily follows the chapters in the text provided, The Master Tutor: A Guidebook for More Effective Tutoring by Ross B. MacDonald, Ph.D., published by The Cambridge Stratford Study Skills Institute, Williamsville, New York, 1994. Students are expected to read the text and participate in discussions, create role plays, present scripted scenarios and make presentations as a member of a cooperative learning group of three to five students. The training will explore the role and responsibilities of a peer tutor and will impart the fundamental research based knowledge and skills of effective peer tutoring. The method of instruction is designed to allow students to practice and demonstrate their understanding of the concepts of the course.
