Each Fitchburg State student is provided with a Web-based email account. All students are required to activate their account and check them regularly for messages from their professors and campus offices.
Student Laptop Requirements
All incoming freshman and transfer students are required to purchase a laptop. Visit our Laptop Requirements page for more detailed information. The Technology Department supports the purchase of both Apple and Hewlett Packard laptops through our website recommendations. Purchases outside of these recommendations may not be supported by our technicians. Hardware support for the Apple platform is limited (see the website for more details).
Software Discounts
The college is pleased to be able to offer software to our students at a discounted price. Students are limited to one copy of each software application. Software can be purchased at the OneCard Office, located in the Conlon Building, Room 200. Please Note: When purchasing the software, students must sign an agreement to uninstall this software should they leave the college before graduation. Blackboard
Blackboard is a Web-based classroom management system used for assignments, grades and announcements. The system is used for online courses as well as some traditional face-to-face classes.
Help Desk
The Help Desk provides 24/7 support to students by phone at (978) 665-4500. There is also walk-in service Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., and most Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. The Help Desk is located in the Conlon Building, Room 236.
Wireless Connection
The college offers wireless connection in all academic buildings, the Hammond Campus Center, residence hall common areas, and the dining hall.
Cable TV and Telephone
The residence halls offer 118 channels, including ESPN, HBO, NESN, MTVU and many more. A complete listing of channels can be found by visiting our website at www.fsc.edu/tv. One telephone jack is available per room and each student may request their own voice mail box.
OneCard
All students and employees receive a OneCard, which is the campus ID card. It provides access to the library, residence halls, computer labs, meal plans, vending machines, and the Recreation Center. The OneCard is used as your identification when purchasing a campus parking permit. It can also be used to shop at local vendors.
