Athletics: Ronald Bereszniewicz - 2000 Inductee - Graduated
1984
Ronald Bereszniewicz was a four-year All-Massachusetts State College
Athletic Conference (MASCAC) and two-time All-ECAC goalkeeper for
the Fitchburg State ice hockey team. In his first season, the Falcons
posted an 18-7 record, yielding just 31 goals during his 7.5 games
between the pipes (4.02 goals against average – 1.58 vs. Division
III opponents). In addition to his .883 overall save percentage
(.935 vs. Division III), Bereszniewicz was named ECAC Goalie of
the Week, ECAC Rookie of the Week, and MASCAC Player of the Week
one time apiece.
As a sophomore, Bereszniewicz, an eight-time Dean’s List
student at FSC, played in 22 games as the Falcons’ netminder,
posting a 3.08 GAA during that time – 2nd best in school history.
Being named All-MASCAC for the second straight year was due largely
in part to Bereszniewicz setting school records for save percentage
(.908) and saves made (679).
Though his team went 10-13-1 during his junior campaign, Beresniewicz
still earned both All-MASCAC and All-ECAC honors, posting a 4.19
GAA and a .871 save percentage in 21 games along the way.
Bereszniewicz may have saved his best hockey for his final season
as a Falcon, as the team went 16-8 while he posted consecutive All-MASCAC
and All-ECAC honors. Twice named ECAC Goalie of the Week, Bereszniewicz
posted a .923 save percentage and a 4.25 GAA (3.17 vs. D-III) in
his final campaign. And as a fitting ending to his illustrious career,
Bereszniewicz received the ECAC Medal of Merit Award for outstanding
athletic and academic achievement.
