Athletics: Maxwell Moczulewski - 2000 Inductee - Graduated
1950
Maxwell Moczulewski was a leader both inside and outside the FSC
playing lines during his tenure as a Falcon. The three-year soccer
and baseball star also played two years of basketball on Pearl Street.
What’s more, Moczulewski, who served a three-year tour of
duty with the U.S. Fifteenth Air Force during W.W.II, was a four-year
member of the Newman Club, as well as being a treasurer and president
for his class during his junior and senior years, respectively.
After playing soccer, basketball, and baseball his freshman season,
Moczulewski posted two shutout victories as a sophomore goalkeeper
for the 3-2 soccer team, prompting the school’s yearbook to
call him “... perhaps one of the greatest goaltenders ever
to perform for the Green and White.” Moczulewski also was
a member of FSC’s 14-5 basketball squad that winter.
During his junior season, Moczulewski captained the 5-3 soccer
team, posting a 1-0 shutout for the second straight year against
Clark University along the way. Furthermore, Moczulewski was a player-assistant
coach on the baseball diamond for FSC.
Finally, Moczulewski, also known as the “Chief,” played
baseball as a senior for the Falcons.
After finishing his Falcon playing days, Moczulewski enjoyed vast
success as a high school basketball coach (183-70 overall record).
Eight of his twelve coaching years were spent at Smith Academy,
where his 141-31 record was good enough to earn him a state tournament
bid every season, two Western Mass. titles, and five Hampshire League
titles.
