Athletics: Dave Marsh - 1999 Inductee - Contributor
David Marsh served as Fitchburg State’s Assistant Director
of Athletics and Sports Information Director for ten years. Dave
began his career at FSC in 1988 after graduating from Springfield
College with his master’s degree in athletic administration.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in buisness administration
from Eastern Michigan University in 1985.
Dave is an example of a jack-of-all-trades. He was respomsible
for the opration of the sports information department, marketing
and promotions and departmental budget preparations. He was charged
with the the coordination of all home and away contests including
facility set preparations, officials, support personnel, ticketing,
transportation, and lodging. He served on several selection committees
for the Athletic Department, was the liaison with the Alumni and
Admissions Offices, and prepared complete season schedules for all
16 sports. Dave directedthe “Friends of the Falcons”
Booster Club which included fund-raising, budget maintenance and
preparation, membership drives and production of the tri-annual
Falcon newsletter. He also was instrumetal in founding the Fitchburg
State College Athletic Hall of Fame and he served as the main department
contact for the event. Possibly more important than his impressive
list of responsibilities is the lasting relationships that formed
with his fellow administrators, coaches, and student-athletes. As
evidence, he was rewarded with the FSC Football 12th Player Award
in 1992, the FSC Cheerleaders Appreciation Award in 1995 and the
FSC Soccer Team Appreciation Award in 1996.
As Jim Jellison, head cross-country and track and field coach
said, “Dave helped provide the support for the programs that
was needed to enable them to grow. Because of him, people learned
about the great athletic opportunities at Fitchburg. Dave was a
good friend to all of the coaches and each day demonstated how much
he cared about the student atheletes, the coaches, the department
and the College.”
