Thornton Named ECAC All-Star

FITCHBURG, Mass - Fitchburg State College junior running back Marlon Thornton (Bloomfield, CT/Bloomfield) was recently named to the ECAC Division III Northeast All-Star Team after the running back helped the Falcons set new school standards in offensive production this season.
Thornton quickly became a force in the conference on a team that known for its impressive passing attack. Thornton amassed 1296 yards (9th best in the country) and 16 rushing touchdowns for an average of 144.0 rushing yards per game (8th best in the country). Thornton also ranked fourth in Division III in scoring at 12.0 points per game and 10th in all-purpose yardage per game (187.3).
Thornton was part of an FSC offense that placed also placed six offensive players on the Bogan Division All-Conference first and second teams, Thornton, who was also named to the New England Football Writer's Division II/III All-Star Team, headed up the list of conference all-stars that inlcuded first-teamers junior left tackle Jim Foltz (Bedford, MA/Bedford) and senior tight end Bobby Hirko (Uxbridge, MA/Holy Name) along with junior quarterback Jim Miller (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) and senior wide receiver Dan Langlois (Oxford, MA/Oxford) on the second team. In the process of leading the NEFC in total offense, the Falcons set numerous individual and team records as well which are listed below (Beyond the records is the complete list of NEFC All-Conference selections).
Miller and Langlois also helped the Falcon offense churn out an NEFC-best 453.6 yards per game, which was 16th in the country. FSC also ranked 13th in the country in passing offense (304.6 yards per game). Miller ranked 16th in the nation in passing yards per game (276.0), 17th in total passing yards (2484.0) and 25th in totals offense (273.3). Langlois was a prime target for the junior gunslinger, hauling in 6.3 receptions per game (38th in the country) for 100.4 yards per game (24th in the country). He also ranked 14th in all-purpose yardage with 167.6 per game and 19th in total receiving yards (904.0).
