Masters in Special Education: Reading Specialist

Low reading achievement is one of the causes of low-performing schools.

However, because of new scientific research, increased knowledge exists to teach reading to all children. This information about language, reading, and writing should inform teacher preparation and instructional programs that target students with reading disabilities.

The Special Education Department has developed a teacher preparation program in reading instruction that defines the knowledge, skills and practices necessary for effective instruction in reading for those students with reading disabilities.
