Peer Assisted Student Support

College is a time of transition. As a freshman or new transfer student, you will encounter a number of new academic challenges and social choices. It can be an overwhelming experience, especially for commuter students, and that's why Peer Assisted Student Support (PASS) was created by the Tutor Center at Fitchburg State College.

PASS is a program designed to help first year commuter and transfer students with their academic and social transitions to Fitchburg State College. PASS pairs eligible students with peer mentors - upperclassmen with similar interests - that are available to answer questions and relate to concerns about college life.

Eligibility

PASS is open to full-time, first year commuter and transfer students who are not currently affiliated with Fitchburg State's Expanding Horizons Program.

To apply contact PASS at the Tutor Center by calling (978)665-3499 or email Tom Driscoll at tdrisco1@fsc.edu.

PASS Benefits

After being accedpted to the PASS program, you will be paired with a peer mentor. PASS staff will match you with someone of the same gender who has similar academic and social interest. Your mentor plans on meeting with you at least three times a semester. You will also be invited to PASS sponsored social events throughout the school year.

The peer mentors are campus leaders who have leadership roles such as tutors and orientation staff. They have at least a 2.75 grade point average and are well trained for their role by Tutor Center staff.

Your relationship with a peer mentor will help you to:

Address your concerns about adjusting to college

Connect with other students who have similar interests

Achieve academically by connecting you with Academic Success Center services

Learn more about your major, required courses and career options

Explore opportunitites on campus to participate in a variety of cultural, social, academic and athletic events, student clubs and organizations.

Initiate activities on campus that interest you

Feel like a part of the Fitchburg State College Community.
