First Year Experience Program

Dear Student:

Fitchburg State College is excited to introduce a new First Year Experience Program and wants to encourage you to consider participating.

This program includes four (4) modules: 1) Living Together/Living Active, 2) Living Well, 3) Living Safe, and 4) Living Smart.

  • Living Together and Living Active are about becoming part of a scholarly community. Regardless of where you choose to live, this goal is about getting students involved and finding a niche at Fitchburg State College, which has been proven to lead to improve academic performance.

  • Living Well is about teaching skills to enable you to live a balanced life by taking care of yourselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
  • Living Safe is about acquiring knowledge and skills to enhance your personal safety and responsibility as a member of the Fitchburg State College community.

  • Living Smart is about gaining strong study habits, note taking, and test taking skills, to name a few. This module will be covering the Academic Advising process and provide you with academic skills that will lead to success inside the classroom.

We would like to invite you to participate in this program, for which a 100 students will be selected to participate. Students will be organized into four groups and paired with a mentor team, consisting of a faculty member, staff member, and a student leader. Each team will be expected to meet five times throughout the semester, as well as attend various useful programs.  We are confident that this experience will assist you in your transition to Fitchburg State College and will contribute to your success here.
