Progression Standards and Student Handbooks
All freshman students in the Nursing Pre-Major must:
- Achieve a grade of 2.5 or better in the following prerequisite courses by the end of Spring semester Freshman year: BIOL 1200 Anatomy & Physiology I, BIOL 1300 Anatomy & Physiology II, CHEM 1100 Pre-Biochemistry I and CHEM 1200 Elements of Human Biochemistry & Organic Chemistry.
- Achieve a grade of 82 or above on the college Accuplacer Math Readiness Exam. Students failing to achieve a minimum score of 82 must complete Basic Math II with a grade of 2.0 or better Freshman year.
- Successfully complete English 1100 and 1200, PSY1100 and SOC1100.
When all of these requirements are successfully achieved, by the end of Freshman year, the student will automatically be enrolled in the nursing major starting with sophomore year.
During the sophomore year, students must achieve a grade of 2.5 or better in BIOL 2700 Survey of Microorganisms and BIOL 1650 Nutrition in order to progress to all junior nursing courses.
To continue in good standing in the major, nursing students must achieve a minimum grade of 2.5 or better in each nursing course. Students may repeat only one nursing course through the entire program. Failure to achieve a grade of 2.5 or better when the course is repeated will result in dismissal from the major.
HESI standardized testing is required at specific intervals throughout the program. Please consult your course syllabus for details. Students are responsible to pay for all required HESI tests.
Please refer to the Student Policies section of your Nursing Student Handbook for more information regarding progression in the major.
