Managing the Not-for-Profit Organization
MGMT 9200 3 cr.
Focus on examining the administrative functions and their relationship to organizational effectiveness and efficiency. External and internal politics of agency survival are addressed, and theoretical and practical concepts of management and leadership are explored.

Programming and Evaluation of the Not-for-Profit Organization
MGMT 9210 3 cr.
Social services agencies, foundations, churches, museums, schools, professional associations and public enterprises comprise the vast array of non-profit organizations. The purpose of this course is to examine and apply the principles of program evaluation for the non-profit organizations.

Selected Seminars in the Not-for-Profit Organization
MGMT/POLS 7000 1 cr.
Topics include Public Funding, Social Security, Facilities, Contract Law, Grant Writing, Program Development, Board Development, Fundraising, Museum Management, Management of Change, History of the Public Good, American Culture and the Rugged Individual and Information Technology Systems.

Track A:  Not-for-Profit Management: select two (6 credits):
The Human Resource Function and the Manager
MGMT 9050 3 cr.
This course provides knowledge of the human resource from the manager’s perspective. The student develops an understanding of the role of personnel specialists. Topics covered include job analysis, employee selection, training, appraisal, promotion and discipline within the context of recent legal developments.
*Prerequisite: BSAD 3200.

Marketing Management
MGMT 9160 3 cr.
This course embarks on a detailed study of concepts and procedural alternatives in the delineation of the market target. In addition, the course covers the development and implementation of the marketing mix and the control and analysis of the total marketing effort.
*Prerequisite: BSAD 3300.

Accounting Practices for Managers
MGMT 9180 3 cr.
This course provides a study of financial reporting systems. Emphasis is given to the interpretation and uses of information contained in financial reports.
*Prerequisite: MGMT 7002.
*Prerequisite courses: work experience is sometimes considered to fulfill prerequisite requirements.

Track B:  Leadership in Public Administration and Government:

Globalization and the American City
POLS 9001 3 cr.
This course will examine globalization through the lens of the American city. The challenges, opportunities, issues and decisions facing public officials, policymakers, non-profit organizations and individual citizens will be presented, debated and discussed.

Leadership Strategies for Civic Organization
POLS 9002 3cr.
This course will provide an overview of essential skills and competencies needed for effective leadership in civic organizations, both public and non-profit. Topics include: strategic planning and goal setting; board recruitment and development; talent, both professional and volunteer, recruitment, supervision and evaluation; resource development; communications and community/government relations; inter-organizational collaboration and strategic partnerships; program evaluation and measuring impact; crisis management.

Institute for Understanding Government Decision Making
POLS 9003 3 cr.
This course focuses on understanding the inner workings and political dynamics of government decision making that affects us locally, regionally, nationally and globally. We integrate invited elected officials, senior-level policymakers, strategic researchers, business leaders and non-governmental organization directors into our daily exploration and application of cutting edge case studies and simulation crisis scenario exercises.
