Deacon Benjamin A. Nogueira and Lois I. Nogueira, Catholic Campus Ministers at the Newman Center, Fitchburg State College, have recently been recertified by the Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA), a national professional association for campus ministers. Reverend Mr. Nogueira was ordained to the Permanent Deaconate on June 7, 1980. He was assigned to Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville, where he and his wife, Lois, ministered at a local nursing facility before their assignment to Fitchburg State College in 1982. In addition to her responsibilities as Chaplain, Lois Nogueira also serves as Administrative Director of the Newman Center. Since their arrival to Fitchburg in 1982, they have also assisted at St. Camillus Parish. Certification measures a person's compliance with CCMA's competency based Standards For Campus Ministers. In order to maintain active certifications status, certified campus ministers are required to go through the recertification process every seven years, which involves self-evaluation, reflection, prayer, a peer assessment, and a continued demonstration of competency in personal, theological and professional areas. Additionally, each certified campus minister demonstrates his or her acceptance of CCMA's Code of Ethics. |
