Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible for a scholarship through the Meeting the Challenge program, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen or a national of the U.S. with lawful permanent residency, verified through completion of the FAFSA
  • Commit to and meet a Service Obligation (PDF) of working with children with disabilities
  • Work with the special needs population in one of the partner districts or a public school collaborative serving a partner district as either a
    • special education teacher on an emergency license (waiver) or
    • special education paraprofessional with a bachelor's degree
  • Maintain satisfactory progress and performance in the program of study per Fitchburg State graduate school policy
  • Must not accept duplicate educational allowances from any other entity

Graduate Program Admission Criteria

  • Official transcript from baccalaureate degree-granting college or university. A minimum GPA of 2.8 is required.
  • Official transcripts from all graduate programs from which you are requesting transfer credit and, if applicable, all institutions from which you have received graduate degrees
  • Three letters of recommendation from individuals under whom the applicant has studied or under whose supervision they worked in a professional capacity
  • A professional resume
  • A personal statement
  • Passing scores for the MTEL Communications and Literacy test are required for all applicants to graduate and certificate programs leading to initial licensure to teach in the state of Massachusetts
