"Prepared to Succeed"

Literacy is the instructional focus at McKay supported by the theme, "Prepared to Succeed."

Members of the McKay community engage in the art of communication that provides opportunities for students and staff to demonstrate and extend what they have come to know, understand and use in order to become contributing members and leaders in the community.

There is a strong belief that literacy must be developed early within an active learning environment that is rich in oral language opportunities. Literacy is embedded in all areas of the elementary curriculum and math literacy is embedded beginning in Pre-K, also.

Everyone in this community strives to attain respect, responsibility and academic achievement. We are one of four elementary schools in the Fitchburg Public School sytem and work in concert with Fitchburg Public Schools.

The McKay Campus School is also the Teacher Education Center at Fitchburg State College (FSC). It has a dual mission; (1) to educate the students in the FPS System and (2) to assist in the education of FSC students who are pursuing an education degree. Pre-practicum students and student teachers who work under the supervision of master teachers assist in lowering the student/teacher ratio for instruction.
