All McKay staff members are preparing their personal professional development plan and aligning it with the Fitchburg Public Schools' District plan. The focus areas must include:
a balanced approach to literacy instruction
inquiry-based math and science teaching/learning through use of the "Investigations" math program and the "Insights" and "Foss" science kits
a pro-social approach to discipline as prescribed by the principles and components of "Responsive Classroom" ®
differentiated instruction
authentic assessment
data collection and analysis
second language acquisition
integration of technology with curriculum
In addition, staff must design 20% of their plan to include personal professional development opportunities. These life-long learning opportunities will ensure that all staff are re-certified within a five- year period.
