MACTE SPRING EVENT

The Massachusetts chapter of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education held a legislative event at the Massachusetts statehouse on April 23, 2007.  The event entitled “Meeting the Challenge of High Quality Education for All Children” highlighted School-College partnerships across the state.  Two large, lighted showcases displayed on either side of the grand staircase provided details and pictures from select P-16 collaborations.  A compendium of these partnerships was also distributed to attendees.  The 2006-2007 president of MACTE, Mary Ann McKinnon, provided welcoming remarks followed by the education advisor to Governor Duval Patrick, Dr. Dana Mohler-Faria, who spoke of the importance of P-12/higher education partnerships to improving student learning.  Other speakers included Dr. Patricia Plummer, Chancellor of the MA Board of Higher Education and Mr. Robert Bickerton, Senior Associate Commissioner of the MA Department of Education.  Several representatives were in attendance including Geraldine Creedon (11th Plymouth), Ted Speliotis (13th Essex)), James Marzilli (23rd Middlesex), Lida Harkin (13th Norfolk) and Tom Calter (12th Plymouth).  Lt. Governor Tim Murray also stopped by the event and posed for a photo with the MACTE board.
