COLLECTIONS
General Collection
The Library’s circulating book collection reflects the curriculum needs of our academic programs. The books are shelved in Library of Congress classification order. Use the online Library Catalog to locate titles and call numbers.
The General Collection begins on the third floor (sections A-DJ) and continues on the fourth (sections DK-Z). Click here to learn how to Find Books in the Library.
Reference Collection
Located on the first floor, the reference collection contains books in all subject areas.
Children and Young Adult Collections
The Children's and Young Adult Literature Collections are located on the third floor.
Journals, Magazines and Newspapers
Current issues of popular journals and magazines are located on the second floor balcony at the top of the stairs. All print journals are shelved alphabetically on the second floor. Microfilm is available for some older issues. Journals, magazines and newspapers must be used in the Library; these do not circulate.
You can also search for articles through the Library’s Research Databases. Access to these is available from off campus.
Nonprint
The Library AV collection contains music CD's and DVD's These are located in browsing bins on the first floor. Multi-volume sets are kept behind the circulation desk.
The Microfiche collections, located on the third floor, contains historical newspapers and ERIC documents.
Archives
The Archives, located on the third floor, contains memorabilia and documents pertaining to the College; Fitchburg State graduate students’ master these; manuscript collections of former Fitchburg State students, faculty and local authors, including Robert Cormier and R.A. Center for Italian Culture
The Center for Italian Culture is located on the 4th floor of the Library. Its mission is to encourage the understanding and appreciation of all aspects of Italian language and culture, including ancient and contemporary studies, and the Italian experience in the New World.

FACILITIES
Computer Access
Network Access
Wireless network access is available throughout the entire Library and Hammond Campus Center building. In addition, network ports are available in many study areas, including the Group Study Room.
Library Research Stations
These computers, located on the first floor, are available for students conducting research in the library. These provide access to the library catalog, databases and many other online resources.
Hammond Computer Lab
There is an open computer lab designated for student use on the third floor near Student Services. Students must login with their ID in order to use the lab. More information about student accounts, available software and technology support can be found on the Information Technology webpage or the Help Desk.
Library Instruction Classroom
The Library Instruction Classroom is located on the third floor near Student Services. When the lab is not being used for instruction, students are welcome to use the computers.
Copiers and Printers
Copiers
Photocopy machines are located on the first and second floors. The cost is 10 cents per page, and fees must be paid using the One Card system. Students, faculty and staff may place money on their One Card at the vending machine located at the first floor entrance to the Hammond building. Guest cards may be purchased from this vending machine.
Microfilm
Microfilm readers are located throughout the second and third floors. Microfilm readers with printers are located on the second floor balcony; printing cost is 15 cents per page.
Printers
Printers for the Library Research computers are located on the first floor. Laptop users may print to the Print Release Stations after installing mobile print software available on the Information Technology website, http://www.fsc.edu/it
Group Study Room
The Galluci Group Study Room is available for use by Fitchburg State College students, faculty and staff. The room is equipped for two to eight people; it contains a conference table, TV/VCR, wireless network access and a network port.
Study Areas
Students are encouraged to browse and enjoy the collection. Tables, lounge chairs, and study carrels are distributed throughout the lirbary. Quiet areas are designated on the second and fourth floors.
Student Support Services
The following Student Support Services are located on the third floor of the Library buidling: College Counseling and Career Services, the Access Office, Centers for Reading, Writing, Math and Study Skills.
