Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library: Borrowing Privileges

Circulation is part of the Access Services Department.

The Circulation Desk is located near the entrance of the Gallucci-Cirio Library. This is where you can checkout and return library materials including Course Reserves and Interlibrary Loans, activate and update your library account, pay library fines and fees, request thesis binding, get general assistance, and more.

The Circulation Office is located directly behind the Circulation Desk.

Borrowing Privileges for Fitchburg State Students

Students must present their Fitchburg State One Card I.D. at our Circulation Desk in order to check out any library items, use Reserves, and pick up Interlibrary Loan items.

The number printed under the barcode on a student's One Card I.D. is the student's Library Institution ID.

The student's Library Barcode is also the One Card I.D. number, proceeded by however many zeroes needed to make the number 9 digits.
Example: If your ID number on your card is 12345, you would add 4 zeroesin front of it and your Library Barcode would be 000012345.

The One Card I.D. is the student's Library Card for as long as s/he is enrolled at Fitchburg State. Refer to the One Card Office for information on how to get your card.

Borrowing Privileges for Fitchburg State Faculty & Staff

Example: If your ID number on your card is 12345, you would add 4 zeroesin front of it and your Library Barcode would be 000012345.

The One Card I.D. is the faculty/staff member's Library Card for as long as s/he is employed at Fitchburg State. Refer to the One Card Office for information on how to get your card.

Cross-borrowing Agreements

  • WILL - Walk-in Interlibrary Loan Program
Fitchburg State students, faculty and staff may borrow circulating materials directly at any Massachusetts state college through the Walk-in Interlibrary Loan program at no charge. (UMass Worcester - Medical does not participate in this agreement).

Simply present your Fitchburg State Student One Card I.D. card at that library's Circulation Desk to register for borrowing privileges. If you have a pictureless student I.D. card, you may be asked to also provide a picture I.D. such as a driver's license. As part of this cross-borrowing agreement, you, the student, agree to abide by that library's policies.

At the request of the lending library the Gallucci-Cirio Library at Fitchburg State, as your home institution, agrees to place a hold on both your Fitchburg State library account and your Fitchburg State student account if you fail to return an item or do not pay any accrued late fines/lost fees.

  • ARC - Academic and Research Collaborative
ARC is a group of libraries in the Worcester area to which the Gallucci-Cirio Library belongs. Through the collaborative Fitchburg State students, faculty and staff may borrow circulating materials directly at most of these libraries. Within this group we participate in both a student and a faculty/staff cross-borrowing program.

In order to borrow circulating materials directly from any of these libraries, you must present a Student, Faculty or Staff ARC Card issued by our Circulation Department and your Fitchburg State One Card I.D. at that library's circulation desk. To get your ARC Card, please inquire at the Circulation Desk of the Galucci-Cirio Library. See list of participating libraries.

At the request of the lending library the Gallucci-Cirio Library at Fitchburg State, as your home institution, agrees to place a hold on both your Fitchburg State library account and your Fitchburg State student account if you fail to return an item or do not pay any accrued late fines/lost fees.

Note: In order to receive a Fitchburg State ARC Card, you must have an active library account in good standing with us. We reserve the right to deny/revoke this auxillary privilege to any Fitchburg State member whose library account is or becomes delinquent with us or any of the ARC member libraries.

Borrowing Privileges - General Public, ARC Cross-borrowers, and WILL Cross-borrowers

For non-Fitchburg State students, faculty, and staff a one-page application form for a guest borrower card is available at the Circulation Desk. Applicants must fill in the top portion of the form, sign the agreement to comply with the stipulated library policies, and present a valid picture I.D. which verifies their address (usually a Driver's License).

There are three types of guest borrower cards available:

WILL Card - Current Students, Faculty and Staff at colleges within the Massachusetts State college system (UMass Worcester - Medical does not participate in this agreement) qualify for a free guest Library Card at Fitchburg State under the Walk-In Interlibrary Loan Program. You must present a valid, current I.D. from the State College you attend at the time of application to receive the Library Card free. The card will be valid until the end of our current semester. The card may be renewed each semester by presenting a current I.D. from your college and updating your application form. If you attend a school that issues student I.D. cards without an expiration date or that does not issue student I.D. cards, we will accept a letter from your college library verifying that you are a currently enrolled student in conjuction with a picture I.D. such as your Driver's License.

ARC Cards - The Academic and Research Collaborative is a group of academic libraries in the Worcester area.

  • ARC Faculty Card - Designated Faculty and/or Staff of libraries belonging to an ARC library participating in the faculty/staff cross-borrowing program qualify for a free guest Library Card at Fitchburg State. You must present a current Faculty/Staff ARC membership card issued by your home library and a valid picture I.D. Your Fitchburg State guest Library Card will expire when your ARC card does. To renew the Library Card you must present your new ARC card at the Circulation Desk.
  • ARC Student Card - Students of libraries belonging to an ARC library participating in the student cross-borrowing program qualify for a free guest Library Card at Fitchburg State. You must present a current Student ARC membership card issued by your home library and a valid picture I.D. Your Fitchburg State guest Library Card will expire when your ARC card does. Special I.D. Card - If a patron does not qualify as one of the above and is over 18, s/he may purchase a guest Library Card. The card is $15 for 6 months or $30* for 12 months (this fee is subject to change). Payment may be made via cash or check only, no credit cards. A library card for Fitchburg State College will then be issued, which may be used immediately. The guest Library Card is only valid at the Fitchburg State Gallucci-Cirio Library and will expire at the end of this time period unless it is renewed by purchasing its usage for an additional 6 or 12 month period.

*Fitchburg State Alumni

Fitchburg State College graduates who present a Fitchburg State College Alumni card at the time of registration will receive a $10 discount on the price of the annual Special I.D. Card. Contact the Alumni Office additional information.

Thesis Binding

Several of the graduate programs at Fitchburg State College include a thesis requirement or thesis option. Students completing a thesis must adhere to the policies and standards set forth in the thesis guidelines. Thesis guidelines can be obtained through the Office of Graduate and Continuing Education or the student's academic department. Upon completion of the thesis, the student is required to submit a bound copy to be placed in the Library Archives and in the student's academic department. Students have the option to find their own bindery service (contact the library for information on binding requirements) or you may use the Gallucci-Cirio Library's bindery service.

To use the library's bindery service, we require a minimum of 3 copies to be bound. Each copy must have an original thesis committee signature sheet and be printed on acid free, quality bond paper (see thesis guidelines for details). When your thesis is complete, bring the copies you want bound to the Circulation Desk. The cost of binding is $11 per copy; minimum cost is $33 payable by cash or check. At the end of each semester the library will send the copies of all theses received out to our bindery service. Turnaround time from when we send the copies to the bindery to when we receive them back is approximately 4 weeks. When the bindery sends the bound theses back to the library one copy is automatically placed in the Library Archives, one copy is automatically sent to the student's academic department and the students are contacted to pick up their copies.
