The laptop initiative has been three years in the works. Planning for
this initiative began during the AY03/04 as part of the overall Strategic
Planning Initiative at FSC and continued throughout the AY04/05.
In the following year, AY05/06, the College initiated a pilot
program to test how laptops are used in a mobile computing environment
within classrooms and throughout common areas like the Amelia
V. Gallucci-Cirio Library; in an effort to prepare the College for a fully mobile environment, in the summer of 2005 Fitchburg State installed wireless across the campus. Finally, beginning in the fall of 2006, Fitchburg State College will implement
a student laptop requirement for incoming freshmen.
