The Office of International Education at Fitchburg State
College provides undergraduate students with the opportunity
to study abroad at a variety of colleges and universities
overseas. Programs may vary in length from as short as a few
weeks, to as long as a semester or a year. We assist students
with pre-departure planning, academic support, and assistance
in re-entering the United States after completing a study
abroad program.
Surprisingly, studying abroad is not as expensive as you think. In most cases financial aid may apply, even for students who currently do not have a financial aid package. While you are abroad you will have the experience of immersing yourself in another culture, but you will also have the opportunity to take courses and apply them to your degree here at Fitchburg State College.
We suggest that you plan your study abroad experience one year in advance (although it is possible to plan a semester in advance). Fitchburg State College has a wide variety of programs to choose from, depending on where you would like to go and what you would like to study. In addition to the programs we offer, Fitchburg State College’s membership in the Massachusetts Council for International Education (MaCIE) provides links to over fifty other study abroad programs.
Please join us for our next Study Abroad General Information Session on Tuesday, October 14th from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in Alumni Room "A" on the lower level of the Hammond Campus Center. We will offer information on program selection, application timelines, costs, and other considerations. We strongly encourage students who are considering studying in another country any time within the next two years to attend this very informative session, if you have not already attended a Study Abroad General Information Session this semester.
We will also offer information sessions in the coming weeks on specific summer 2009 study abroad programs sponsored by Fitchburg State College. If the Scottish highlands are calling to you, please join us for a special study abroad information meeting this Thursday, October 9th to learn about the Fitchburg State College Summer 2009 Study Abroad Program in Edinburgh, Scotland. The meeting will be held in the Percival Auditorium from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Professor Richard McElvain, who will lead this program, will describe the course that he will teach during the program and the program itinerary. Dr. Clare O’Brien, Director of International Education, will be available to answer your questions about planning for study abroad, application timelines, and other considerations. (Please note that this is a new date for this information session, which had been previously scheduled for Tuesday, October 7th.)
