Courses:
COMM xxxx: Modern and Classic Travelogue: France
Drawing style and substance from the world’s rich history of travelogues, students will develop a body of expressive work, using their choice of a visual medium (photographic, video, etc.) to interpret the local culture and environment. They will record their surroundings, putting experience and fact into human context, using the angle of their own personal interest and obsession (food, natural history, language, art, etc.) Prerequisite: Completion of at least one Communications Media production course or permission of instructor. Instructor: Prof. Charles Roberts, 3 Credits
French Language
Learn French, and try it out once you leave the classroom! Students will learn the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing through a communicative approach. We will treat cultural aspects of French culture, through readings and explorations of Grenoble. Classroom learning will be integrated with outside activities in which students will put the French language to use. Students will keep a journal, and will do a final paper and oral presentation. Instructor: Prof. Rala Diakité, 3 Credits
Housing
Students will be housed in a residence hall during their stay in Grenoble (single and double rooms). The residence hall includes a fully-equipped kitchen and dining area.
Excursions:
Students will spend two nights in Paris, exploring the city on a walking tour and seeing the lights of Paris on an evening boat ride down the Seine River. Day trips will include a trip to nearby Avignon to see the Palace of the Popes. Free time will allow a visit to the French Riviera.
