the Geo Club
The Geo Club, comprising all geography and earth science majors plus anyone else with an interest, elected the following:
Chris Mills and Curt Heher, Co-Presidents,
Matt Gustafson and Katelyn Hennessey, Co-Vice Presidents,
Erin Abbott and Sam Sheehan, Co-Secretaries, and
Patrick O'Brien, Treasurer.
Recently the Geo Club hosted the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission's Jason Stanton, who spoke of their work and the possibility of internships. He has since sent the following announcement:
The Montachusett Regional Planning Commission in Fitchburg, Massachusetts is looking for two Transportation interns for the summer of 2009.
General Duties:
The internship will run from April through September. Interns will earn $11.89 per hour and will average 20+ hrs per week (Mon-Fri). Interns must have a personal vehicle, and will be reimbursed for mileage when used for work related tasks. This position also involves physical/manual labor and significant outdoor work.
Specific Duties:
Traffic Counting -- assist in data collection efforts that include, but not be limited to:
- Installation of automatic traffic counting machines
- Manual traffic counts
- Collect accident data at local police departments
- Use data base and spreadsheet software for data entry
Transit Planning -- assist in data collection efforts that include, but not be limited to:
- Bus and train passenger surveys
- Ridership data input
Other office related tasks
- Data entry
- Assist with report preparation
Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access are a plus. Work hours may vary based on data collection needs.
