Welcome to the department maintained web site of the Geo/Physical Sciences Department at Fitchburg State College. The department comprises the study of physics, geography and Earth Systems Science (which grew out of Earth Science, which grew out of Geology), offering majors in geography and earth science. Physics, physical science and astronomy are taught in the Condike Science Building, while geography and the earth sciences are taught in the McKay Building (wing C). An almost current description of our department with some details on the various tracks and course offerings can be found on the college's official web site (see geo dept in the site map on the left) We have a précis of the requirements for our majors on our Some Courses page. It should also be noted that the department does not have direct control over the college's official web pages, including the individual faculty pages.
We are a small but vibrant and growing department, one with professional connections both down the block and around the world.
Along with all other departments at Fitchburg State College we have crafted a "vision statement" (the current version can be found via the link in the site map) and working on assessment at both the department level and the individual course level. We expect that results in these endeavors will be incorporated into our self study on a regular basis. In addition, we entertain the hope that we will be the home of an Environmental Science major, currently in abeyance.
And of course the views presented here (in particular on the personal web pages) are not necessarily shared by anyone but their authors, although each of us may think that everyone should hold these views!
Love your mother.
