Building Services

Custodial

Training in state of the art cleaning techniques and the use of labor saving devices enable our custodians to provide the best possible facilities in which to work and learn. The custodians also report any problems which may call for the services of other Departments

Grounds

The Grounds Department is responsible for the maintenance and landscaping care of all outdoor areas of the campus, including lawns, athletic fields, trees, shrubs and flowers. Grounds also provides rubbish collection service, snow and ice removal; and storm drain maintenance.

Building Maintenance

Electrical

This Department supervises, maintains, installs and upgrades: power, lighting & switches. Fire alarms, security alarms, generators, motors, and mechanical equipment.

Structures

Carpenters and Painters provide interior and exterior building maintenance and repairs, including: walls, flooring, ceilings, windows, doors, locks, painting, and furniture assembly.

Power Plant

Plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning are the responsibility of this department. They also operate the steam generation plant, make recommendations for ways to conserve energy, and insure that approved requirements are adhered to.

Materials Management

All items coming to the college are received by this department. Packages other than those going through the Post Office are also sent from here. Materials Management also coordinates the Campus Recycling Program, and handles all hazardous materials.

Project Management, Drafting and Engineering

Our Project Management team provides the following services: design, development, estimating, spec writing, AutoCad, and many other similar functions. All projects requiring blueprints and or specifications are handled by this department. When you are in the beginning planning stages of renovations or improvements to the facilities of your department, please contact this department for assistance.

Environmental Health and Safety

The Health & Safety Officer works to ensure that the College follow all federal and state regulations, to provide a safe and healthy learning and working environment.

Administrative

This office is the center of the department for processing all administrative requirements such as, requests for information, correspondence, work requests, budget items and key requests.

Campus Recycling Program

Fitchburg State College is dedicated to the preservation of our natural resources. To this end, recycling bins for paper and computer paper have been clearly identified and placed in strategic locations throughout the campus.

The College also recycles printer cartridges and copier toner cartridges. From the smallest HP cartridge to the big LaserJet and copier cartridges, we collect them all. Just put them into the box that your new one came out of, and send them to Materials Management, formerly known as Receiving, in Anthony.

The Recycling Program is coordinated by the Materials Management Department.

Hazardous Materials Disposal

Of prime concern to us all, for health and safety reasons, is the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Space in the Materials Management Department has been designated as the Hazardous Materials Collection Point, where they will be disposed of appropriately. Please call Materials Management at x3206 to arrange for pickup of your hazardous materials.
