Freshman Application Checklist & Filing Deadlines

Filing Deadlines
Completed applications are reviewed on a rolling admission basis. Notification for fall admission begins in December and spring admission in September. On average, admission decisions are mailed four to six weeks after an application file becomes complete.

Fall Admissions

  • Deadline for students who wish to be considered for merit scholarships or the Honors Program: February 1
  • Priority deadline for all other applicants: March 1
  • Priority deadline for applicants to the Communications Media and Nursing programs: January 1.
  • Deadline for International applicants: March 1

Spring Admissions

  • Priority deadline for all applicants: December 1
  • Deadline for International applicants: December 1
  • Nursing applications are not accepted for the Spring semester.

Application Checklist (Available in PDF format)

  • Undergraduate Application (be sure to sign & date)

  • Non-refundable application fee. Do not send cash. Please print applicant’s first and last name on the check or money order. The application fee may be waived for those applicants with extreme financial need who are recommended in writing by a non-profit agency or their high school guidance counselor.

    $10 for Massachusetts’ residents of more than one year
    $40 for non-Massachusetts’ residents

  • Official high school transcript including first quarter senior year grades. Transcripts are considered official only when sent to Fitchburg State College directly from the high school. Applicants who have completed a GED should also submit official test results, sent directly from the testing center.

  • Official SAT and/or ACT test scores. Fitchburg State College’s CEEB code is: 3518. Applicants who have been out of high school for more than three years are not required to submit test scores.

  • Application essay (see section IX on the application)

  • OPTIONAL: Letters of recommendation. The Admissions Committee encourages applicants to submit letters of recommendation from guidance counselors, teachers, and/or employers.

  • OPTIONAL: Admissions Interview.

  • OPTIONAL: Communications Media applicants ONLY may also submit ONE of the following:
    1. A one to two page statement that addresses previous experience in the field and your career goal.
    2. A personal interview with Admissions
    3. An original script or storyboards. Please submit no more than 5 pages of a script and no more than 5 storyboards (8” x 10”).
    4. An original film or video.
    5. Original artwork or slides of original artwork.

  • Leadership Academy Honors Program ONLY. In addition to the requirements listed above, students who wish to be considered for the Leadership Academy must submit all of the following:
    1. A letter of recommendation from an individual in a position to evaluate your leadership abilities or potential for leadership.
    2. The appropriate application essay (see section IX on the application).
