Distance Learning: Development Process

  1. Developer makes initial contact with the Distance Education Coordinator to develop a course (confirms it does not already exist.)
  2. Developer completes and gets departmental and/or program chair signatures before submitting the form to the Distance Education Coordinator.  (Distance Learning Course Development Proposal form)  The form is then signed off by the Distance Education Coordinator and the Dean of Graduate and Continuing Education. This form is required at least 12 weeks prior to the start of the semester in which it will be offered.
  3. Developer requests a development shell through the Information Technology online help desk. http://www.fsc.edu/technology/blackboard/instructorhelp/
  4. Developer completes required Blackboard Training coordinated with the Distance Learning Coordinator.
  5. Course must be fully developed and ready for review at a minimum of 4 weeks prior to the course start date.
  6. At this point (at least 4 weeks prior to start) Developer must submit, with appropriate chair(s) signatures, paperwork for review of the completed course.  (Distance Learning Course Initiation form). The form is submitted to the Distance Learning Coordinator. At the same point in time, the Developer will grant access to the appropriate parties for final review.
  7. Course must ultimately be approved by the following:

    Department Chair and/or Program Chair, Distance Education Coordinator, Dean of Graduate and Continuing Education

  8. Any required changes and/or edits must be completed one week prior to the course start date. (If the course is not approved by at least one week prior to start date it may be cancelled.)
