Reduced Shakespeare Company

600 Years of History in 6000 seconds! From Washington to Watergate, yea verily from the Bering Straits to Baghdad, from New World to New World Order, the three cultural guerillas of the Reduced Shakespeare Company will take you on a ninety minute rollercoaster ride through the glorious quagmire that is American History.

The RSC tackles such controversial questions as: Who really discovered America? Why did Abe Lincoln free the slaves? How many Democrats does it take to screw in a light bulb? History is normally written by the winners... now it's the RSC's turn. www.reducedshakespeare.com

Noche Flamenca

Under the direction of Martin Santangelo, the award-winning Noche Flamenca has become Spain's most successful touring company. Formed in 1993 by Santangelo and his Bessie award-winning wife, Soledad Barrio, the company regularly tours throughout the globe. Performance highlights in North America include Berkeley's Cal Performances, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, the Ravinia Festival, the American Dance Festival, Wolf Trap, and the Hollywood Bowl, among others.

Hailed by critics everywhere for its transcendent and deeply emotional performances, Noche Flamenca is recognized as the most authentic flamenco touring company in the field today. Santangelo has successfully brought to the stage the essence, purity, and integrity of one of the world's most complex and mysterious art forms without the use of tricks or gimmicks. All aspects of flamenco; dance, song, and music, are interrelated and given equal weight in the presentations of Noche Flamenca, creating a true communal spirit within the company - the very heart and soul of flamenco. www.nocheflamenca.org

John McDermott

Irish tenor indeed. In fact, John McDermott is one of the original Irish Tenors and a musical storyteller in the Celtic tradition. His voice and his signature rendition of Danny Boy are emotionally evocative and tenderly nostalgic. A five-time Juno nominee, McDermott’s performance with his band is guaranteed to sell out quickly and satisfy immensely.

A special afternoon is promised for everyone in the theatre. www.johnmcdermott.com

Sam Bush

Though he admits a certain discomfort with the moniker “King of Newgrass,” Sam Bush has more than earned it.
As cofounder and leader of the seminal progressive bluegrass band New Grass Revival through 18 years during the 1970s and ‘80s, Bush may not be the only person responsible for newgrass, the wild bluegrass stepchild that features rock ‘n’ roll grooves and extended virtuosic jams, but since New Grass Revival’s dissolution in 1989,
Bush has certainly been one of the most brilliant of newgrass’s many bright lights. www.sambush.com

CeU

Just when you think that Brazil must surely have exhausted its supply of irresistibly jazzy, funky, sexy, soulful electro-pop singer-songwriters, someone like CéU comes along and makes you think that maybe that particular well is bottomless after all.

Her full name is Maria do Céu Whitaker Poças, but she goes by the simpler moniker CéU. It's a name that can be translated into English in a couple of subtly but significantly different ways. CéU means either "sky" or "heaven," depending on context, and either translation applies quite nicely in this case: think of her as "Sky" when you hear the soft blue clarity of her voice, or "Heaven" when one of her sweetly bubbling melodic hooks takes you by surprise and makes you shiver with delight.    www.imnworld.com/ceu
