Individuals may register for up to two courses offered during the institute.

Supervising, Directing and Leading in Arts Education I
Instructor: Marc Keroack

This course will be held Monday through Friday July 14-25 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.. Time varies on July 16 & 25 when it will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This course involves discussion about interdepartmental relations, faculty development, grants, community relations, the diversity of a community, the needs of exceptional learners and other administrative concerns. In preparation for the institute, individuals will be expected to complete reading or other assignments prior to the start of the courses. Participants taking the course for graduate credit must complete additional requirements defined by the instructor. Final papers or projects must be submitted to the instructor within three weeks of the institute's completion. Grades will be assigned within one week of that date.

Supervising, Directing and Leading in Arts Education II*

This course will be held Monday through Friday July 14-25 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.. Time varies on July 16 & 25 when it will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This course involves discussion of various topics, including efficient and humane use of personnel, finance, curriculum and physical resources. The evaluation and supervision of programs and personnel is also covered. In preparation for the institute, individuals will be expected to complete reading or other assignments prior to the start of the courses. Participants taking the course for graduate credit must complete additional requirements defined by the instructor. Final papers or projects must be submitted to the instructor within three weeks of the institute's completion. Grades will be assigned within one week of that date.

Creative Arts Research
Instructor: Harry Semerjian

This course will be held Monday through Friday July 14-25 from 1:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. Time varies on July 16 & 25 when it will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Studies include an inquiry into the role of the creative process in education and the arts, as well as the integration of the arts in education. Research into the cultures of various community groups and the inclusion of exceptional learners in the educational process are considered. In preparation for the institute, individuals will be expected to complete reading or other assignments prior to the start of the courses. Participants taking the course for graduate credit must complete additional requirements defined by the instructor. Final papers or projects must be submitted to the instructor within three weeks of the institute's completion. Grades will be assigned within one week of that date.

Creative Arts Curriculum*

This course will be held Monday through Friday July 14-25 from 1:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. Time varies on July 16 & 25 when it will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This course is designed to increase understanding of how to develop and implement systemic K - 12 fine arts curriculum, instruction and assessment. Topics include components of a curriculum, selecting standards/outcomes, mapping the big picture, best practice instruction, performance-based tasks and assessments and other issues regarding arts education. In preparation for the institute, individuals will be expected to complete reading or other assignments prior to the start of the courses. Participants taking the course for graduate credit must complete additional requirements defined by the instructor. Final papers or projects must be submitted to the instructor within three weeks of the institute's completion. Grades will be assigned within one week of that date.
