ACSM Health/Fitness Instructor Certification Workshop
5/3/08 – 5/4/08; 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Fitchburg State College Recreation Center

Course Description:
Total workshop time is 16 hours lecture, 7 hours practical, 7 hours review.  Two hours lecture and practical sessions include information on:  Cardio-Respiratory Fitness, Body Composition, Exercise Programming, Pre-Activity Screening:  Risk Factors & Stratification, and Muscular Fitness Assessment & Exercises.
Workshops are neither a prerequisite for certification, nor are they intended to provide the full experience and knowledge necessary for the successful completion of the examination.  Workshops provide both a review of the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) of the HFI and a forum for the acquisition of the new knowledge and skills.
Participants should have prior experience and competence in monitoring heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP), both at rest and during exercise.  BP training sessions are typically available from the local chapter of the American Heart Association.  Experience in leading an exercise class, basic counseling skills, and knowledge of functional anatomy and exercise physiology are also expected before attendance.
