It was great to meet with you and the field organizers to discuss
community-organizing opportunities with ACORN. Your insights into
the Alinsky model and ACORN’s application of its principles
in building political and economic power for low and moderate-income
families were inspiring.
I would certainly be motivated to develop ACOPN’s programs
on a neighborhood basis by my firm belief in every individual's
right to participate in and be served by our political system at
all levels. My active involvement with New World Coalition and Women’s
Awareness at Fitchburg and my summer job with PIRG introduced me
to the power of building a sense of political efficacy in a constituency.
These experiences will be invaluable to me as a field organizer
with ACORN. Furthermore, I am familiar with the rigors of canvassing,
so, neighborhood group building through "doorknocking"
would not be new to me. The broad range of demands that working
in one of ACORN's regional offices provides particularly excites
me.
