Dear Ms. XXXX,
I am writing to you to apply for a summer internship that will
utilize my skills in research, leadership and management. I feel
that a Special Programs Coordinator position at the Smithsonian
would give me an opportunity to continue developing the research
skills I have acquired at Fitchburg State College, and that while
learning, I could also contribute in a creative, independent manner.
Currently, I am a rising senior at Fitchburg State College and
I am majoring in History and minoring in Economics. I am also the
president of the Black Student Union (BSU) and am responsible for
a $4000-plus budget to implement programs to benefit the campus
community. In addition to the BSU, I am currently employed at the
Intercultural Resource Center, the mission of which is to recruit
and retain students of color. I have helped with organizing cultural
events for the campus and with informing prospective students of
the Center's facilities. I feel that this experience, as well as
the rest of my experience described briefly on the enclosed resume,
will help me with working at the Smithsonian.
I am very interested in the challenges and opportunities that this
internship has to offer and I feel confident of the skills that
I have to contribute. I will call your office next Tuesday to discuss
