Housing Process: Incoming Student Assignments

Assignment Process for New Freshmen and Transfer Students

When you are admitted to FSC, Admissions will send you a packet of information about on-campus housing. When you send back your admission deposit, you can also send back the housing deposit and the Occupancy Agreement. Admissions will then forward the Occupancy Agreement to Housing and Residential Services and during the summer you will be assigned to a room.

Incoming Student Assignments

During the spring semester, current residents have an opportunity to select a room for the coming year. Once returning student assignments are completed, Housing and Residential Services begins to make assignments for new freshmen and transfer students who have submitted their Occupancy Agreement and deposit. Assignments are made for new students based on a first-come first-served philosophy and so will be made according to the date the Occupancy Agreement and deposit are received.

The earlier you send the Occupancy Agreement, the more likely it is that you will be assigned to one of your top residence hall choices. The deadline dates for new freshman applicants is May 1 and for new transfer students is July 1. Occupancy Agreements received after these dates are unlikely to be accommodated in
on-campus housing.

If you know someone that you want to room with, there is an option to make that request on the Occupancy Agreement and complete the roommate preference section. Roommate requests will be honored, if possible, but due to space limitations cannot be guaranteed. To help insure that you are assigned with the roommate of your choice, be sure that the roommate preference information is completed on both agreements, that the agreements are submitted at the same time and that the agreements are submitted early.

If you don’t know someone you would like to room with, Housing and Residential Services will make an assignment for you. We use the information on your Occupancy Agreement (to the extent possible) to assign you to a building and roommate, so be sure to complete the agreement thoroughly and accurately. Housing and Residential Services uses residence hall preference, roommate preference and age as the most important assignment criteria, in addition to using the supplemental information about lifestyle preferences to make the best possible assignment (as space allows).

We will begin making room assignments in June and residents will be notified of room and roommate assignment by letter in late July or early August. In addition, students will be sent information that will help ease the transition to living on campus.
