Information Technology: Banner 7 FAQ

What's new in Banner 7?

On Columbus Day weekend the college underwent a major upgrade to Sungard Banner 7.x.

The most obvious difference with Banner 7 is improvements to the user interface. In an effort to avoid cumbersome left-to-right scrolling and extensive use of "next block", Sungard has utilized a more familiar tab navigation common to many web based applications. Sungard also worked to make better use of the screen, by fitting more information onto "header" blocks (first block you see on a form) so users wouldn't have to navigate through as many blocks. It looks nicer and is much easier for new users to get used to!

How do I get to Banner 7?

Navigate to the following webpage: http://banner.fsc.edu

Click the link "Banner Production Environment" under Internet Native Banner. Click the link "Self Service Banner (SSB)" under Self Service Banner if you would like Self Service (formerly known as "Web4").

You can add banner.fsc.edu to your favorites or even create a shortcut for your desktop by clicking "File" then "Send" then "Shortcut to Desktop". You should rename the shortcut to something you will easily see since it will save as "Fitchburg State College - Student Records".

How do I log into the system?

Your login information will be the same as it was in Banner 6. Use your current Banner username and password.

How do I access Banner 7 Test?

Also navigate to banner.fsc.edu and click "Banner Test Environment (BBAN)". Keep in mind that this is periodically refreshed with fresh data from production, so if you were working on something a couple of months ago, it very likely will be gone.

Is there still a 30 minute timeout in Banner 7?

Yes. You will be able to reconnect by clicking "Tools", "Technical Support", "Reconnect to Database". If you suspect you have timed out, try reconnecting before exiting a form (it will likely get hung up if you try to exit a form and it has timed out). Please try to remember to log out when you know that you will be away from your computer for an extended period. Obviously sometimes you will be kept away unexpectedly.

How can I get a basic overview or train a new employee?

Contact Leona Burgess (lburgess@fsc.edu or x3375) to set up a training session.
