Four-Year Undergraduate Program

Students in the department can concentrate in Architectural Technology, Construction Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Energy Engineering Technology, Facilities Management, Manufacturing Engineering Technology or Technical Theater, or create an interdisciplinary major by sharing coursework with the Education Department. Whatever program you choose, you'll receive a common core of required courses that provide a strong technical foundation from the most comprehensive Industrial Technology program in Massachusetts.

Facilities

Students at Fitchburg State have access to the Amelia V. Gallucci-Cirio Library, a comprehensive information center dedicated to the educational development of all students. The library boasts 200,000 volumes, all accessible to students. A knowledgeable and professional staff, along with an easily accessible print and electronic collection, facilitate interaction between students and library resources. The college also has a state-of-the art fiber optic system that provides each classroom, lab and residence hall with access to the Internet, advanced phone service and cable television. The Industrial Technology Department has its own facilities, including sophisticated technical and computer laboratories and resource rooms. Over the past three years, the college has spent nearly $4 million on updating facilities across the campus. In the last five years, the college has provided $422,000 in new equipment funding, creating the largest and most advanced Industrial Technology facility in Massachusetts.

The Construction Technology program has recently upgraded its computer equipment and software with a grant from Primavera Systems, Inc. and McGraw Hill. Primavera P3 e/c is now available on all of the computers in a new lab, and is being used to determine schedules, milestones and risk assessment. F.W. Dodge, a division of McGraw Hill, has provided online access to current plans and specs, and is being used in estimating and studying live projects. Pay/Dirt software and its digitizer system for site work estimating is also part of the new technology; it is a stand-alone package that allows more in-depth understanding of site work. Students also can use new laser printers and plotters with these programs to allow for both electronic and traditional control of projects.

Faculty

Five of the eight Industrial Technology faculty members have earned full doctoral degrees, while the rest hold advanced degrees from schools like Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Clark University and the University of Connecticut. This is a faculty that stays connected to the real world, and can help bring that connection directly to students. Our faculty members regularly present papers at local and national conferences and remain involved in everything from construction development in the Russian republic to writing the technology education curriculum for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Internships

Every student in the Industrial Technology Department has an internship opportunity. Student interns can work as few as four hours a week outside the classroom, or full-time, for an entire semester. Either way, the hands-on experience you'll gain can give you an important edge from the moment you graduate.
